Will I have to sign another 12 month contract?
In this instance a new 12 month contract will not be enforced. All other customer requested upgrades at any other time would be subject to a 1 month contract.

When will my exchange be enabled for the 2Mbps* service and how will I know if,
and when, I have been upgraded?
This is a BT network programme and as such we cannot currently advise you of exactly when the exchange (DSLAM) that is used to provide your service will be upgraded. However, the programme is due for completion by September 2005. There will be no formal communication of when an exchange has been upgraded. As and when your exchange/DSLAM has been upgraded you should notice, depending on the new bandwidth, much faster access to the Internet.

How is the upgrade being rolled out?
BT is rolling out the upgrade on a DSLAM basis (this is the equipment within each local exchange that connects your line to the broadband network). It is important to note that this is not the same as roll-out on an exchange basis ? many exchanges have multiple different DSLAMs that will not necessarily be done at the same time.

Someone in my street has got their upgrade but I haven’t — have I been missed out?
No. Your neighbour will be connected to the same exchange but potentially not the same DSLAM, so your lines may be upgraded at different times.

Why would I be prevented from having from a 2Mbps* service?
The upgrade programme involves converting customers to the highest possible stable speed their line will support. However, a few customers may not be able to get 2Mbps, due to factors such as distance from the exchange.

Will you be restricting my service in any way?
We will be imposing caps or usage limits on your service as a result of this increase in bandwidth, however it may be an advantage to you if you are a light user etc to swap over to a different package, but as an existing customer provided you do not continually go over a limit of 6GB ( as a fair policy ) and are still on your existing tariff you will not be restricted or cutoff. Charges above the package limit incur an addidtional £2 per Gb of bandwidth (The same across the board in cost as most major ISPs).

If I can't have a 2Mbps* service what happens?
If you are one of the few customers who is unable to receive the 2Mbps* service, your line will be upgraded to the highest stable level it will support. If 2Mbps* is not possible, it is likely that you will be upgraded to 1Mbps*. In extreme circumstances, it may be that the line is not upgradeable past 500Kbps* and your service will remain at this level.

Do I pay less if I am unable to be upgraded to 2Mbps*?
Unfortunately, in the unlikely event that you are unable to receive an enhanced service, there will not be a price reduction.

Will I have to do anything to my PC or connection to make the changes happen?
This is an upgrade to the network and therefore you won?t need to do anything. Just sit back and enjoy the higher speeds.

If I am using my broadband connection when the change is made, and my service goes down,
do I reconnect as normal?

It is predicted that the maximum downtime during an upgrade will be four minutes, during which time it will not be possible to reconnect. After the change you will be able to reconnect as before, but at the higher speed.

Will anything change on my bill?
The original product name that currently appears on your bill will remain the same unless you change your tariff.

I'm in the process of cancelling due to speed restrictions, can I stop the cancellation and, if so how? If it's too late to stop the cancellation can I sign up again, free of charge?
Whether you can stop your cancellation depends on the status of the order when you contact us. You can sign up as a new customer, and this may affect your personal settings such as your IP address and host names etc. As this is a new service, you will be signing a new 12 month contract and will be liable for any set up costs associated with the new order.

What difference will a 2Mbps* service mean to me?
2Mbps* means that using the Internet will be significantly faster, whether you?re downloading files, browsing the web, or simply collecting your email.

Will there be enough bandwidth available if all residential customers are upgraded to 2Mbps*?
Yes. As this is an upgrade of the whole network, there will be plenty of bandwidth for our customers.

Why are business customers not being upgraded to a 2Mbps* service?
Business customers have had the option of a 2Mbps* service for sometime with our Business 2000 product.

What is the difference between Home and HomeOffice?
Home is our residential offering, and offers a great package of basic features suitable for home users. HomeOffice is our professional/consumer product; adding on the core values of Home with static IP addresses, web space etc.

Will my service name change with the service upgrade?
No, you will keep your existing service name for billing, for example, HomeOffice 500.
